Strength Training- 2/9/16
Strength training is a very important part of the triathlete's regimen. If done properly under the supervison of a knowledgeable trainer or coach the athlete can benefit with increased performance and reduced risk of injury. When the wrong person is in charge problems such as minor strains and pulls or worse critical injuries such as tears or medical conditions such as rhabdomyolysis (which can result from high intensity training programs like CrossFit) and could threaten the long term health of a young person. Rhabdo can even lead to kidney failure if serious enough. The take away is that parents should monitor their child's strength training closely. if you have any questions, you can contact Athlete Development Advisor, Matt Valyo at matt @tri-and-fit.com
